Leo has crossed the 8 weeks mark, and is on his way to being 2 months old, although because February is such a weird month we won't get to actually have a 30th of February.
Anyhoo, he has had his check-ups and these are the stats:
5.5 kg - right on the WHO line of average weight for his age.
58 cm long - smack bang on that line again.
39 cm head circumference - the exact average for a little dude of his age.
So he's a very average little baby.
And he's fighting fit!

Cheer up, Leo.
Leo is sad because his Daddy left this morning.
So he got a present for being brave and not crying too much.
He gave a little smile. Just a little one.

Cousin Catch-up
Leo went to Bourges on Friday to catch-up with his cousin Chloe who was born exactly two weeks after him.
Their first meeting, about a month earlier when Leo was 1 month old and Chloe only 2 weeks, didn't go so well. Chloe found Leo to be boorish and his jokes of poor taste. He tried the 'pull my finger' gag, but she'd really had enough by this point. In fact she was so bored by his incessant toilet humour that she fell asleep.
Things were a bit better this time around and Leo went easy on the potty jokes, except as a result they soon ran out of things to say, and fell into an awkward silence.
Nonchalant Chloe was tight lipped about the encounter.
Whereas cheeky Leo still has a whole swag of rude jokes he's just busting to share.

Failed Family Portraits
So I decided that it would be nice to take a photo of Team Fraussie each month, to document how we all grow.
The baseline pic or December Family Portrait which you have already seen was the one taken in the 'chambre d'accouchement' at hour 0.
We look tired, a bit surprised but very happy and Leo looks new. It captured the moment.
So at my insistence, we tried again for a team photo in January - on Leo's 1 month b'day.
And we failed. Massively.
The first series of pics our friend Augustin took of us at home, as we were all about to head out together on a walk in the forest.
And in this photo he looks like a dwarf pretending to be a baby.
We stole Mini Me!!
So we tried again once we were in the forest.
This photo had huge potential - great light, scenic forest, Romain and I looking half-way decent - but Augustin managed to cut Leo out almost completely (he probably thought he was doing us a favour).
So we gave up.
We had slightly better luck with the February Family Portrait:
We'll try to do better next month.

Romain and I certainly don't look great, but what the hell is going on with Leo???
We have plenty of photographic evidence that he is a pretty cute little baby, but holy shit! you wouldn't believe it from this pic.
Or this one.

And again - Fail!
So I tried for one last time once we were back at Romain's parents' house. Trouble was Leo was a bit colicky and sad so I was nursing him in the 'colic hold'. Which makes for an extremely disturbing family portrait. Romain looks serial-killer-crazed, I look like I've mixed sedatives with alcohol and Leo looks like a cat.
So we gave up.

Big Stripes Little Stripes
NB: Romain reckons it is extremely daggy to dress Leo up in the same clothes as him and that these will be photos that Leo will hate us for when he is 15 years old. I reckon pfffft.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Hmmm, now which lucky soul should I ping with my arrow of love?
Whoever it is will be showered with teeny kisses sent down from the sky
from my lovely little lips
In fact, that sounds like something everyone deserves.
So Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Chubba Bubba
Leo is getting good and chubby - no doubt about it.
We weighed him this morning and he is now 5.2 kg - so he has put on 2 kg since he was born. Not a bad effort in 6 weeks.
Here: the proof is in the pudding - and he has a nice big round one.
He seems to be going through his '6 week old growth spurt' at the moment - he's back to eating every 2 hours or so. Deary me. If he doesn't stop soon he'll pop.

Ok, so I may not have taken these pics at the most flattering angle, and may have slightly exaggerated his belly as a result - and horizontal stripes never did anyone any favours - but there is no denying he is one chubba bubba.
And he is getting lovely little fat spots in all the right places - like around his wrists. Too cute!

Party Hat Again
Remember Leo's 1 week old party hat?
Well he wanted to party again tonight, so out it came.
He's got a good amount of chub going on now - and that hat is a little snugger on his noggin. Also - we have had to pack away a lot of his '1 month old' gear, which is bitter sweet. Sad because it is all so tiny and cute, but good because that means he is growing up. I was particularly sad to pack away his tee-pee pjs, but then Romain and Mum found the same pjs in '3 month old' big boy size - which he is sporting tonight.

Cry your socks off!
Leo cried so hard the other night that his socks flew off! really!
So he has created a new expression - "to cry your socks off".

Milky Smiles - 5 weeks old today
Leo has celebrated his 5 week old birthday with a big drink of milk followed by a good long nap in Dad's lap.
And we're getting smiles now too! This one with his mouth full of milk.
Life's pretty good.

bath time
pics of Romain bathing Leo on day 2
